masak \\o/ # Rakudo Stockholm is released! 17:58
...with some free promotion of November, Druid and Proto thrown in. :)
Tene :D 17:59
masak Tene: Genshi doesn't have a test suite. 18:05
I plan to write some tests tonight and maybe tomorrow, so I can blog week 8. 18:06
Tene: it would be good to divide the work so that you take the HLL part and I take the pure Perl 6 part. if you feel you have the time.
Tene: also, I plan to write to Adrian tonight about Ilya's departure from the grant. 18:07
Tene What part do you want me to do?
masak Tene: implement the HLL part of Hitomi. :) 18:08
Tene What part is that?
masak well,
I have this idea that if we bypass Perl 6 and just generate precompiled PIR code from the templates, we might get a speed boost compared to the pure-Perl6 version. 18:09
Tene right
masak so my plan is this: I'll spend an hour or so writing those tests, and then we can both write one implementation each. 18:10
I'm curious about how PCT works, so I'll probably review your commits quite closely. 18:11
I do hope that the same test suite can be used for both halves of Hitomi. haven't given much thought to how it would work, because I don't know enough about cross-HLL stuff. 18:12
Tene: how does that sound? 18:38
we don't need to port the whole of Genshi, because it does a lot of different things, but getting the things in hitomi-example.xml working would already be an improvement over HTML::Template. 18:39
as for the email to Adrian, I want to write that I'm not inclined to discontinue the whole grant, and that I would appreciate some way to go forward without Ilya. 18:41
either simply cut his parts and declare the remainder of the grant completed after my 11:th week and without Ilya's parts, or transfer Ilya's tasks to me, and I'll do them after my own 11 weeks. 18:42
PerlJam 's ear perk up 18:47
er ... what happened to Ilya?
masak PerlJam: he had illness in the family, had to devote a lot of time and money to visiting the hospital, during which time he couldn't be active with Web.pm. 18:48
PerlJam: now he is overwhelmed by work, and has had to step down from grant work.
PerlJam ah, bummer x 2
masak aye. 18:49
besides that, I think Web.pm is progressing as planned.
I'm really happy about the progress so far.
hopefully our grant manager will have some suggestions on how to move on.
I'm disinclined to cancel the whole grant, not least because it would look bad on paper. 18:50
PerlJam yeah, don't do that :)
how were you guys going to distribute the grant money?
masak we assigned hours, and then divided the total amount according to the hours. 18:51
it might be possible to negotiate a re-assignment.
PerlJam gotcha. I hope Ilya doesn't get short-changed on his part.
masak so far, no money has been paid.
Adrian said at the start of the grant work that he would look into sending cheques to each of us. haven't heard from him about that since then. 18:53
I need to go home to eat. I'll try to stay online during the evening as the flaky neighbor's wireless allows. 19:09
Tene: let me know what you think of the above plans. (both re Hitomi and re Ilya's part of the grant) 19:10
