Parrot 4.1.0 "Black-headed Parrot" | parrot.org | Log: irclog.perlgeek.de/parrot | #parrotsketch meeting Tuesday 19:30 UTC

whiteknight dukeleto: you're listed as backup admin now 00:07
benabik One of these days, I'll help mentor. But the student side is nice while I can take advantage of it 00:10
whiteknight benabik: yeah, a lot more money on that side 00:11
benabik :-D
whiteknight one day when I go back for my PhD maybe I'll be a student again
tadzik 'late-evening 00:16
whiteknight hello tadzik 00:17
tadzik damn, I'm suprised at least by the GSoC stuff 00:20
dukeleto tadzik: surprised by what? 00:21
tadzik dukeleto: by TPF not being accepted
dukeleto tadzik: yes, that is surprising, but it seems that many projects that have been involved for a while were rejected 00:22
tadzik: wordpress was rejected as well
tadzik oh?
oh
interesting
dukeleto tadzik: i think google is trying to mix things up and allow some fresh blood into the program 00:23
that is my guess, anyway
davidfetter "i do not drink...wine" 00:24
well, serves me right for not looking that one up. s/do not/never/ :P 00:26
whiteknight If Google is trying to mix up and get fresh blood, this might be the last year for Parrot to be accepted 00:34
cotto I wouldn't read too much into it without more data. 00:44
whiteknight yeah 00:47
there's an IRC meeting at some point for rejected groups. I may attend as a fly-on-the-wall to see what's up
TPF not getting in is really puzzling
unless their application was really lacking
The more I think about it, the more interested I am 00:56
benabik Who did TPF's application? I wonder if they did something different this year. 01:01
whiteknight it could be political. Google does stuff with python, not with perl 01:03
01:05 kid51 joined
benabik I'd hope it's something more like "new blood" than politics. :-/ 01:05
davidfetter um, excuse me, but if you're under the impression that any human organization larger than an individual is non-political, you're riding for a very hard fall 01:27
benabik True story, that. But I can always hope for the best. 01:28
davidfetter there's nothing wrong with politics :) 01:31

kid51 Has anyone looked at either GI #736 or #737, filed today? 01:34
I think we have some seriously misleading documentation.
In #737, the requestor calls: 01:35
$ perl Configure.pl --parrot-config /stochatzillarage/src/parrot-4.1.0/parrot_config
... but there is no '--parrot-config' option to Configure.pl ...
... and, AFAIK, there never has been -- documentation in tools/dev/create_language.pl notwithstanding 01:36
benabik The template in create_language.pl needs love. 01:37
kid51 There is also incorrect documentation in docs/pdds/pdd30_install.pod:
26 Language installation process (from the language source directory):
27
28 perl Configure.pl --parrot-config=/path/to/parrot_config
I don't really know what might be meant by the "language installation process" 01:38
whiteknight I can try to look at some of it tomorrow 01:44
but for now, sleep 01:45

benabik dukeleto: Something I've noticed about travis: it runs fulltest. And fulltest a) runs codetest and b) seems to run tests multiple times. So if we make sure travis only runs each test once per compiler and codetest once, it probably wouldn't time out as much. 15:18
15:36 lateau joined 15:38 not_gerd joined
not_gerd dukeleto: the travis build currently fails not because of timeouts, but as fallout from the increased warning levels... 15:38
benabik not_gerd: There have been a fair number of failures due to timeouts recently. It's on and off based on the time it takes to do all the apt-getting. 15:40
benabik wonders if travis has a local apt mirror. 15:41
msg dukeleto I don't know if you backlog, but in summary: 1) fulltest duplicates work - many codetest runs and I think each test may run more than once. 2) you should see if Travis has a local apt mirror to help speed apt-get. 15:43
aloha OK. I'll deliver the message.

msg benabik yes, i have already told travis about local cpanmini mirrors and stuff like that. Thanks for the suggestion :)
