Coke that one night I had an extra large coffee with a shot of espresso at 4pm, it went really well. 14:24
last night I couldn't concentrate long enough to verify moritz's commit. 14:25
atrodo Coke: Does that mean you have a new regular coffee?
Coke atrodo: I was up until 4:30am that night. ;)
so, no. I can't do that on a regular basis anymore. :) 14:26
atrodo Coke: That makes it a 12 hour energy drink, now doesn't it? ;)
Coke it was... quite effective. 14:28

dukeleto I go on vacation and then there is all kinds of action. I guess I should go on vacation more often. 19:40
japhb dukeleto, Clearly that is *exactly* the lesson to take from that. :-) 19:46
cotto dukeleto: welcome back. I was wondering where you'd gone to.
dukeleto japhb: welcome back! I haven't seen you in a while.
cotto: just read the epic "parrot is dead" parrot-dev thread 19:47
cotto dukeleto: I hope you took a break for lunch. 19:48
dukeleto cotto: it requires another pot of coffee :)
so much talk, but where do we go with the m0 branch ?
cotto and I have a lot invested in it, as do others. What are the parameters needed to merge the m0 branch? 19:49
m0 is effectively a rewrite/fork/etc of Parrot. Just that it is in a branch instead of another repo.
and I have thought about parrot-light a lot in the past, except I called it "parrot-mobile" and it was basically optimized for embedded devices 19:50
cotto dukeleto: I'm developing an allergy to big rewrites. Given the place that Parrot's at now, we need to be able to produce something interesting quickly.
Coke I think m0 and light are orthagonal, no?
dukeleto cotto: yes.
Coke: not sure. Just ranting at this point. 19:51
cotto dukeleto: I don't see us as being able to get m0 into an interesting state quickly enough.
Coke If parrot-lite turns into the only parrot, seems like that would help the m0 effort by requiring less stuff to be rewritten.
cotto That said, the code is separate enough from parrot that we can pick it up later at a more opportune time. 19:52
japhb dukeleto: I mostly retreated to #perl6. :-) 19:54

PerlJam dukeleto: whatever happens, we don't want a Monty Python sketch come to life :) 20:04
atrodo Although that would be hilarious 20:05
PerlJam well ... after the pain of parrot's death, it might be hilarious at a YAPC as a "lightning talk" or something 20:09

uvtc After the recent "Goodnight, Parrot" post, I'm sorta excited to see a followup "Good morning, Parrot" blog post somewhere. :) 20:12
er, s/Parrot/Parrot 6/ or sixparrot or whatever. 20:18
allison PerlJam: there's a great book titled "The Last Camel Died at Noon" (about surviving a disasterous trip in the desert), could be a good lightning talk ;) 20:24
is anyone looking at calling conventions yet? 20:26
that's what I'd like to peek at after work tonight, if no one's beaten me to it
(as in, "what does Rakudo not need")
cotto allison: all yours 20:27
allison cool 20:28
PerlJam uvtc: if you can get chromatic to write that "Good morning, Parrot" post, that would be perfect :) 20:32
uvtc Heh. Actually, I asked him about it on reddit the other day: www.reddit.com/r/perl/comments/187j...ot/c8cymnb 20:36
I hope the "get C interop" comment wasn't insulting. I only have an impression in that area from what I've heard here. 20:37

uvtc Work is currently being done at coke's parrot/parrotsix branch, correct? 20:41
20:41 arnsholt_ joined
cotto uvtc: some of it is. There are a couple branches. 20:42
uvtc Gah. My brain wants to read that as "coax parrot sticks branch".
PerlJam If we take chromatic's post as the death knell for Parrot, then when any of the current work comes to fruition we should have a Zombie Parrot release ;) 20:43

uvtc Yesterday I tried to coin the expression "great molting of 2013". Did not get as many laughs as I'd hoped. :) 20:43
PerlJam It seems like more than molting to me. 20:45
uvtc cotto: wow, lot of branches in that repo. 20:46
pmichaud mentioned something yesterday (or maybe this am) about possibly creating a new "sixparrot" repo and using the chance to get rid of some history.
cotto uvtc: I don't see the benefit of that approach. I like being able to look at history. 20:47
We can get rid of historical but unneeded code without a new repo.
uvtc irclog.perlgeek.de/parrot/2013-02-11#i_6438705 20:48
cotto yes. That's what I don't see the benefit of.

moritz faster 'git clone' is the main benefit 22:03
not sure how much it's worth 22:04
alester Howdy Parrot/Perl 6 folks: A general question from me as the Perlbuzz guy (and also Gabor as Perl Weekly guy by proxy). Is there anything I can help you with amidst all this turmoil about dead(?) projects and the future and blah blah blah? Messaging? Blog posts? Tweets? Is there something people should know about How Things Are Going that isn't getting out there? 22:08
cotto alester: thanks for asking. There seems to be a rough consensus and plan forming. Once I'm done with $dayjob and an afk thing, I'm planning on writing a post about what's happening and what the plan is. 22:10
alester OK 22:11
uvtc cotto++
alester How can I help?
I'd be glad to help write, for example.
That seems to be an Important Message to get out.
cotto alester: The offer is appreciated and I'll be thinking about how you could help. 22:13
not sure atm
alester That's fine. 22:14
I'm here for y'all.
