whiteknight WHAT I DID: 18:47
* More fixes in the imcc_compreg_pmc branch. I would like to merge it by Friday *at the latest*. If we can't meet a friday deadline, it waits till after 3.3.
* Sent out a notice to the parrot-dev list about the 3.3 release. Feature Freeze in master starting 12 April.
* Working on Rosella. Adding tests and docs. Promoted the "Event" library to stable, and working out those details.
* Working with GSoC students to perfect those proposals. We have 6 submitted, hopefully we will have more by the Friday deadline.
WHAT I WILL DO:
* Continue working on Rosella docs/testing
* Continue with imcc_compreg_pmc. Aiming hard for that Friday cutoff.
* Testing testing testing in prep for the release.

tcurtis Did: Wrote draft proposal for GSoC and sent it to parrot-dev. Will: take whiteknight++'s advice and drop the lexer generator part. Research LALR parsing more. EOR. 18:49

* DONE
** Not much, due to exhaustion from $job
** Took and closed trac.parrot.org/parrot/ticket/2083 (--cxx option to Configure.pl)
* WILL DO 20:14
** Will continue to urge people to focus on completion of Roadmap Goals we set for 3.3, and development of Roadmap Goals for 3.6.
Remember that we will have an online Parrot Developer Summit on April 30 or May 1.
** Have begun reaching out to Rakudo folks re Roadmap Goals
** We need a Python-on-Parrot pumpking/project manager. (The fellow I was hoping to recruit can't do it due to time constraints.)

- M0 roadmap progress
-- started on, then gave up on a prototype M0 assembler
--- refining the ops and VM is more valuable at this point
-- started implementing M0 in terms of dynops and a slightly specialized dynpmc
--- using dukeleto++'s lorito branch, t/dynoplibs/m0proto.t
*will do:
- more M0 dynop prototyping, updating the spec as I go
*blockers:
- none

cotto_work hello 20:30
kid51 Hello
mikehh hi there
soh_cah_toa hey
bubaflub hi
Util Hello
tcurtis hi. 20:31
cotto_work How did we do this week? 20:32
GSoC is ramping up.
soh_cah_toa i've got a few docs i'm still working on. trying to get tests to pass
mikehh not much happened on master, quite a bit in various branches 20:33
cotto_work mikehh: that's a good thing. We like branches.
We have a supported release coming up in 2 weeks. If anyone has deprecations to file, now's the time. 20:34
mikehh managed to get make splint to work, now just need to figure what it is telling me :-}
cotto_work mikehh: great. We can always use more splinters. ;) 20:35
mikehh also installed Ubuntu 11.04 i386 beta/Kubuntu 10.04 amd64 beta
still having a few problems there, but managed to do test runs in both 20:36
cotto_work Does anyone have any questions to bring up? 20:37
kid51 q1q 20:38
cotto_work kid51: go ahead
kid51 So, not to anyone's surprise, my questions are about Roadmap Goals.
We had 3 for 3.3.
20:38 lucian left 20:39 NotFound joined
NotFound Late hello. 20:39
kid51 Can we get a writeup (if not already done) for whiteknight's IMCC work and cotto's M0 Lorito work?
Also, cotto, will any of your work be reflected in master as of 3.3?
cotto_work kid51: no
The spec is 90% done, but I still have the other 90% to do. 20:40
kid51 okay, then if whiteknight can describe extent to which his Roadmap Goal will be reflected in master for 3.3, that would be great.
We need to think about which parts of those RGs need to be carried over.
20:40 lucian joined
kid51 And, just as it's not too soon to think of GSOC ... 20:41
... it's also not too soon to think of Teams working on Roadmap Goals between April and July.
EOQ
soh_cah_toa what are the roadmap goals? i wasn't here for that. is there a link? 20:42
cotto_work soh_cah_toa: groups.google.com/group/parrot-dev/...&pli=1
soh_cah_toa great 20:43
cotto_work I'll plan on sending an update on my M0 spec/implementation progress tonight or tomorrow. 20:44
to parrot-dev, that is 20:45
mikehh application deadline for GSoC is this Friday, is it not?
soh_cah_toa yeah
mikehh 7how many proposals have we had so far? 20:46
cotto_work 8 are in melange
at least a couple more are expected 20:47
any further questions? 20:48
benabik *just* updated his proposal. ( gist.github.com/899867 )
cotto_work benabik: excellent. I'm excited about that one. 20:49
bacek ~~
cotto_work Would anyone like to propose goals for the week? 20:51
lucian give feedback to all GSoC proposals 20:52
to make sure students and possible mentors are largely in agreement
cotto_work I suspect that that won't be a problem.
still a good goal
kid51 q1q
cotto_work kid51: go ahed 20:53
*ahead
kid51 At the risk of raising a sensitive subject ...
... how do *we* decide which GSOC projects should go forward? What part of decision is ours and which is GSOC's?
cotto_work During the judging period, we rank proposals. Google decides how many slots each org gets. The top N proposals are accepted. 20:54
kid51 And who are our judges/rankers and what are their/our criteria? 20:55
cotto_work mentors
That's the part of the process that any mentor can take part in. All mentors won't necessarily mentor a project. 20:56
lucian afaik, GSoC only determines # of slots
i mean google
cotto_work kid51: what's your concern? Only people with a PaFo org mentor bit can vote on PaFo org proposals. 20:57
I suspect that criteria vary from person to person. I look for viability, benefit to Parrot, likelihood of the student sticking around and wishful thinking, mostly in that order. 20:58
kid51 Okay, that's more or less what I wanted to know.
cotto_work The wishful thinking bit is hard to avoid.
kid51 We don't have any uniform criteria that all mentors are applying. We're applying the mean of the various mentors' criteria. 20:59
cotto_work yes
kid51 I just want the applicants to know that, e.g., kid51's criteria may well differ from cotto's.
cotto_work Sure. kid51 != cotto 21:00
mikehh and even mine :-}
lucian kid51: i don't think they need to know any criteria
or who does anything
kid51 k.
EOQ
lucian i only care whether i get accepted or not
NotFound This channel log is public, so now they knows ;) 21:01
lucian sure, and i'm one of "them"
what i'm saying is there's no need to justify anything. it's not even a good idea to do so
mikehh to google or ourselves? 21:02
NotFound Not a justifcation at all. Just transparency.
We never hide anything (if someone does, he does so well that I'm not aware). 21:03
cotto_work It's good to get that straightened out. Are there any more questions?
lucian mikehh: to anyone, pretty much
bacek should we start "starring" proposals on melange? 21:06
cotto_work bacek: it's not too early
I've only been holding off because I want to knock most of them out in one sitting. 21:07
bacek 2 days to go 21:08
soh_cah_toa a very long 2 days
cotto_work bacek: that's only the deadline for student submissions. Rating continues through the 17th.
bacek cotto_work, ah. ok. I did my starring anyway :) 21:09
cotto_work or 23rd
soh_cah_toa how do we find out if it's accepted?
lucian soh_cah_toa: waiting is 21:10
benabik wants to be a star.
soh_cah_toa email? irc?
cotto_work soh_cah_toa: that will be announced on the 25th
lucian soh_cah_toa: you get an email from GSoC/google
cotto_work soh_cah_toa: you'll know
soh_cah_toa okay
cotto_work Let's call it a wrap. Our goal for the week is to review GSoC submissions. 21:13
soh_cah_toa sounds good
cotto_work thanks, all 21:14
