wolverian I don't see much spec in S05 on how to parametrise rules 01:35
TimToady wolverian: there's not much to say--to the first approximation it's just like ordinary methods 03:38
you'll get a better idea of it by looking at STD.pm
for example "rule regex" 03:40
zonkers whoa 03:57
TimToady my head is spinning. :)
zonkers is there a ball park date of the release?
end of 2008 mid 2009?
TimToady we don't do dates, because you can't predict how volunteer error will manifest itself 03:57
but we're a lot closer than we were a year ago... 03:58
zonkers i would certainly hope so.
TimToady s/error/effort/ grr
anyway, feel free to volunteer :) 03:59
zonkers my boss can't believe how productive i can be in perl
my co workers are so stuck in their little java worlds
TimToady we hope to improve on p5 productivity greatly
and nobody is more impatient to get it done than we are. :) 04:00
that is, after all, why we're working on it as hard as we are... 04:01
zonkers it has to be tough because of all the perl code that exists out there now
TimToady nah, we can always just feed that to p5 :)
or to a p5 interpreter embedded in a p6 one 04:02
or we can translate it
but mostly it'll be new code in p6
it's not like p5 is going to suddenly stop working
I expect there will still be all kinds of p5 code out there ten years from now 04:03
you can still see p4 code out there in the wide world...
'course, part of the reason for that is that p5 will run p4 code 04:04
TimToady which isn't directly true for p5 on p6 04:04
TimToady at least, not till we replicate a p5 compiler in a p6 engine 04:05
TimToady which I don't think too many people will be motivated to try 04:05
at least, not to the point of being bug compatible 04:06
well, someone must've plugged a quarter into me... 04:07
FurnaceBoy ...and now they're shaking you because nothing came out 04:19
SamB or maybe they're wondering why he doesn't bounce much 04:19
if they mistook him for one of those horse things...
katie_d I'm starting to try to grok the Parrot sources, and I was thinking about writing a set of guides for beginners who want to learn how things work, as I go along. As far as using snippets from trunk/docs/ -- what are the licensing requirements? As long as the information on my site is released under the same terms, with a link to the Artistic license that Perl uses, I am allowed to use them wherever I want, correct? 04:21
katie_d Oops. Sorry wrong IRC window -- meant to ask in #parrot :/ 04:22
wolverian TimToady, thanks. 04:56
choosing Markdown as a test for writing a grammar wasn't probably the best idea 04:57
it reminds me of perl 5...

ruoso wish he had more man power to implement the S1P types...
ruoso TimToady, you said in a mail that nobody wanted your implementation skills... well... if they are available, I would really enjoy it ;) ;) ;) ;) 18:28
wolverian that sounds like a weird euphenism
