Util Report: 19:31
# Done: Nil (All delayed 1 week for $WORK)
.end
Hello! Who all is in attendance?
rurban_ me 19:33
and Chirag should also report
Chirag Yes
I am here
Util Welcome! Report when ready :) 19:34
rurban_ Done: Improved pmc2c to optimize write barriers, and properly apply :no_wb, :manual_wb and use RETURN() statements. Could need a few more cross-checks 19:35
If WBs can be omitted methods can now use :no_wb or :manual_wb. Docs are also needed for this new feature.
Me and Chirag annotated all PMCs and got a speed improvement of 2.5% in an average benchmark 19:36
Looks like the regressions are also gone now, but need more testing
Todo: more testing, docs, more pcm2c cross-checks 19:37
My benchmark machine is under too high load, will check later how much faster we are now. Maybe it's 5% 19:38
.end
Chirag Done: Same as rurban. I am getting a working build on my machine with our WIP.
TODO: Check more pmc files 19:39
.end
rurban_ We also haven't optimized the dynpmc's yet. Need to think of other langs using our new pmc2c 19:41
Pretty happy about the GSOC progress
Util Sounds like great progress to me.
Chirag: Gentle reminder: TPF GSoC requires weekly blog posts; bi-weekly at absolute longest. 19:42
rurban_ In Summary: For all writer methods have now one less nested C function call, and we removed several duplicate write barriers, which are costly.
Chirag yes.. I will do that in a day
Util Exellent 19:43
Util fingers out-type brain
rurban_ Chirag is still bit new to proper git discipline and coding standards, but he'll learn it. I'll fix it up promptly. 4 eyes are also much better to catch tricky WB/GC bugs 19:44
I will not merge it before I'm sure rakudo will be able to handle it. 19:45
Util Glad to hear it. (re: merge)
Do I understand correctly, that the 2.5%+ speedup is *only* from removing-or-repositioning WBs?
rurban_ yes 19:47
Util thx
YAPC::NA::2014 in Orlando; Do I have this right? rurban=Attending Chirag=Not_attending_this_year
rurban_ from removing unneeded WBs, and removing one nested call for writers 19:48
I'm attending, yes
Chirag cannot attend
rurban_ maybe we get a perl.org budget to get Chirag to Orlando
Chirag: Is it only the budget? 19:49
Chirag I dont know about the dates
either
rurban_ end of june
Chirag I am available
rurban_ www.yapcna.org/yn2014/ june 23-25
Chirag But visa?
rurban_ Just as tourist 19:50
Util Chirag: FYI, in the past, either TPF or YAPC itself, have helped GSoC students with $TRAVEL to YAPC. 19:51
rurban_ But you'll have to wait ~1hr in the customs line a the US entry, everybody has to.
Util If you cannot make YAPC::NA, you might check the dates for YAPC::EU and YAPC::Asia, to see if either fits your schedule.
rurban_ EU is in August, in Sofia, Bulgaria, but I'm not yet sure if I will go. I already got the plane ticket though
Chirag June is perfect for me 19:52
rurban_ Asia maybe. Asia is really nice and huge, but almost no english
Util Visa: people coming from overseas to YAPC::NA::2014, will look like all the tourists coming to Walt Disney World.
yapcasia.org/2014/ 19:53
Chirag I am planning to come to US for my masters next year .. If getting a visa now won't interfere with that then I am in .. Also, some funding will help
Util www.yapceurope.org/ act.yapc.eu/ye2014/ 19:54
rurban_ uh, looks like he needs a visa: www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-visatypeinfo.asp
India is not a member of the VIS Waiver program
VISA Waiver
Util reads 19:55
I concur, unfortunately. 19:56
rurban_ www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-typeb1b2.asp looks like overkill to me. Looks like he needs to go to Delhi to get a VISA
Chirag it says 60 days for the procedure
rurban_ And the VISA fee is $160
Oh my, even getting married is easier 19:57
Chirag thats not much i guess
Util BTW, how is it that Houston.pm will have 46 people there??? I can only get 3 from Atlanta.pm, and *it* is in *driving* distance of Orlando! 19:58
rurban_ Maybe you got a Visa Application Center (VAC) nearby. Mumbai probably
Chirag Let me check
rurban_ CPanel is shipping some devs to Orlando as usual
46 is not so much, in Austin we were more. From my team only one is not allowed to go 19:59
I'll be offline the week before Orlando, holidays in Boise 20:00
Util Noted, thanks
Chirag I have come home to Hyderabad .. There is one close by
rurban_ I'm pretty sure the VISA vetting needs more than 2 weeks 20:01
The other visa is here: bulgaria.visahq.in/ 20:03
There's one in Hyderabad though
Copy of a recent bank statement showing proof of sufficient funds (at least $60 per day). Letter on company letterhead from Health Insurance Company indicating the coverage plan for the applicant 20:04
that's like going to Russia
Util We should move the Visa discussion back to #parrot. 20:05
Anything else before we adjourn? From anyone?
rurban_ I would say, looks bad
Util OK, then. Meeting adjourned. Thanks! 20:07
