TreyHarris TimToady: "exception", not "expection" 03:25
eviltwin_b ah, and the happydancing finally begins? :) 03:34
yup 03:35
dduncan TimToady, even with that typo commit, the problem remains?
you just changed "expections" to "expection" 03:36
since you're reading this, I also have feedback on some of your main wording ... specifically, you were using the term "value" in a number of places where "element" may have worked better ...
for example, "Perl hash that autodeletes values matching default" maybe is more accurate as "Perl hash that autodeletes elements whose values match default" 03:40
at least, when I read "values" in the context of a Hash, that doesn't mean "key and value", just "value"
now, if "value" means the entire element to you and most people, then fine, leave the present wording 03:41
mind you, the describing paragraph uses both 'element' and 'value' in the more accurate fashion 03:43
in the end, the current wording is fine, so I retract any change request 03:45
TimToady I can't believe how many people (including me) noticed the "expection"... I even got email... 04:10

Limbic_Region anyone here ever heard of an "instant access file" - probably in the context of a Windows box? 12:47
anatolyv doesn't sound familiar.
Limbic_Region salutations all 16:35
gnuvince Hi L_R 16:37
Limbic_Region erie quiet today 16:49
gnuvince Action usually starts at noon, EST. 16:50
Limbic_Region well - there are actually several hotspots in a 24 hour period of time
given audreyt and other's timezones

elmex perlbot: FUCK YOU RETARD
jrockway perlbot++ 18:46
;)
elmex jrockway-- 18:47
perlbot--
elmex (this ++ stuff is not democracy, it's just retarded) 18:48
qmole feel free not to use it 18:49
PerlJam didn't notice anyone claiming that karma was democratic 18:50
elmex but i have to see it everytime i read perl6 commit logs, it's making me absolutley sick
gnuvince elmex: why?
elmex because it makes no sense to write ++ after everyones name 18:51
gnuvince It's a form of a praise. Example: audreyt++ is so cool for allowing so many committers into Pugs 18:52
or
gnuvince-- committed a change to the repository without testing it, this breaking the entire thing 18:53
s/this/thus
elmex oh yes, a big commit-bit list is always a good sign... "oh you found a bug in my software? here is the commit bit, fix it please"
does perlbot support -- ? 18:54
gnuvince yes 18:55
karma: foo
elmex at least that
perlbot: karma foo
perlbot Karma for foo: 53
jabbot elmex: foo has neutral karma
elmex foo--
perlbot: karma foo
perlbot Karma for foo: 52
jabbot elmex: foo has karma of -1

jabbot elmex: elmex has karma of 9

elmex perlbot: karma elmex 18:55
perlbot Karma for elmex: -18
jabbot elmex: elmex has karma of 8
elmex elmex++
perlbot What kind of idiot karmas himself? Your kind of idiot!
elmex perlbot: karma elmex
perlbot Karma for elmex: -19 18:56
jabbot elmex: elmex has karma of 9
elmex jabbot: elmex++
perlbot What kind of idiot karmas himself? Your kind of idiot!
jabbot elmex: Does talking about this bother you?
elmex perlbot: karma audrey 19:00
perlbot Karma for audrey: 2
jabbot elmex: audrey has neutral karma
elmex perlbot: karma audreyt
perlbot Karma for audreyt: 290
jabbot elmex: audreyt has karma of 2756
jrockway elmex: you need a perl culture lesson, I think 19:32
people generally approve of something ++ and something --
people also approve of Pugs' give everyone a commit bit approach
it works, it makes development easy
elmex jrockway: you mean 'perl6 culture' don't you? i see that ++ thingie almost never on p5p
jrockway p5p is a different crowd 19:33
elmex right, p5p is not perl eh? :)
jrockway but head over to #anything-on-irc.perl.org and you'll see it being used
audreyt no, the karma is from #perl
which is the primary perl5 chat channel on irc.perl.org
elmex aaah, you speak of #perl
audreyt it's a IRC subculture
elmex ok
audreyt not really related to mailing list
jrockway it shows up on use.perl.org too ;)
audreyt it's an extension here to use as a postfix sigil to denote people 19:34
audreyt e.g. "theory++" is a person, but "theory" is likely just a theory 19:34
jrockway yes, makes things much easier to read :)
elmex: you'll get used to it after a while, don't worry :) 19:35
elmex of course, after 6 years i only need 2 aspirin instead of 6
jrockway elmex++
elmex yay 19:36
justatheory theory++ 20:07
what the hell?
gaal so #perl6 has postfix sigils denoting personhood? 21:15
kolibrie gaal++ # realizes he's a person 21:18
Juerd 20:34 < audreyt> it's an extension here to use as a postfix sigil to denote people 21:35
Errr
First time I ever hear that
Juerd It's quite common to say "bicycles++" to mean "I like bicycles" 21:35
Doesn't mean bicycles are people, does it? :)
avar bukakke++ 21:37
kolibrie Juerd: I think then you could say (bicycles)++, to mean it is not a person 21:39
Juerd kolibrie: I'd hate that, because it differs wildly from how I've always used karma syntax on IRC. 21:40
() is used for delimiting, e.g. when the subject has whitespace in it
kolibrie true 21:41
pmurias and what would someone-- mean, inhuman?
avar the syntax is whatever++ 21:51
