this might become a rather boring meeting ;-) 18:02
so I hope the others will backlog
there are a few questions I'd like to bring up 18:03
jnthn is here
moritz_ 1) I'd like to propose #ps-like meetings where people pre-post their reports, if any.
jnthn Actually dinner at least 10 mins away from ready :-)
18:04 dukelet0 joined
moritz_ 2) we'll have our first announcement soon - what distribution channels do we want? 18:04
18:04 lanny joined
moritz_ I can think of a) my blog b) use.perl.org c) perl6.announce 18:04
anything else?
3) it would really help my writing if I had a better idea what has been expained at what point in the book 18:05
so I encourage people to hack away on outline.pod, or submit parts of chapters
doesn't have to be anything final/worked out or so 18:06
Su-Shee moritz_: would you like an inspiration which might help you with 3)?
moritz_ Su-Shee: sure
jnthn moritz_: maybe announce on rakudo.org too, since the book will be around the same time as Rakudo *.

moritz_ jnthn: ok 18:07
Su-Shee moritz_: 4 years ago, a "practical lisp" book was published which is excellent and very much in this "real world examples" style. chaper by chapter also important concepts are explained and expanded while mentioning why "this way" and not "that way". 18:08
moritz_: it's online here:
gigamonkeys.com/book/
moritz_ Su-Shee: thanks, I'll look at it 18:09
oh, and PerlJam++ for the preface, masak++ for the object example 18:11
jnthn I plan to take the object example from masak and try and start filling out some explanation, if that's OK with folks. 18:13
moritz_ sure, go ahead 18:14
I also pondered doing that
jnthn :-)
moritz_ but I guess I should add more explanations for the basic multi dispatch example first
jnthn OK. I'll try and commit some writings on object stuff in the next day or two.
moritz_ great 18:15
jnthn It'll make as some relief from The Branch.
pmichaud hello all, I'm here but also chatting in lots of other windows
moritz_ that's fine 18:16
there doesn't seem to be lots of things to discuss 18:17
pmichaud last night my wife asked if we were going to cover database and web in the book
jnthn moritz_: If you want me to review/comment on multi-dispatch stuff you've written, let me know.
pmichaud those were the two applications she thought would be of greatest usefulness and utility
jnthn (e.g. when you're at a point when you would find input useful)
moritz_ jnthn: thanks; so far it's basic enough that I manage on my own ;-) 18:18
pmichaud: that's both interesting and tough
pmichaud well, it would be really good to have a chapter on Web.pm
moritz_ let's ask masak when he turns up
pmichaud I agree database might be tricky
but Paula says those are the two areas that always come up in her workplace 18:19
jnthn moritz_: Oh, I don't doubt you can handle it, I just meant another set of eyes on it and some feedback, if I spot anything of note. :-)
moritz_ depends on how far Squerl or dbdi comes along
jnthn: ok

PerlJam doh! 18:22
jnthn A deer! 18:24
PerlJam saw the announcement for p6b and then promptly forgot about it 18:25
regarding announcements ... perlbuzz.com ? Will the first release be buzz-worthy? 18:26
jnthn How much noise do we want to make at this stage? 18:27
moritz_ maybe not too much
jnthn Is it mostly of interest to people already following Perl 6, or of wider interest?
I'd say probably at this point, more the former.
moritz_ too
PerlJam sounds good to me. 18:28
what about perlmonks.org?
moritz_ perlbuzz and perlmonks when it's actually out and in print
PerlJam (I ask about perlmonks because use.perl.org is a bit of a wider audience than just perl 6 people)
but both use.perl and perlmonks have perl 6 questions/discussion come up 18:29

Su-Shee buzz later, please. not like the apress perl 6 book which is announced for 2 years now and in my amazon shopping basket.. 18:38
pmichaud I'd post to p6u, article on rakudo.org would work 18:39
use.perl is fine also, and p6l probably too
beyond that, I'd let others buzz about it instead of our promoting it further. 18:40
