| lizmat | good * | 08:27 | |
| so I'm looking at what Java JDK 8 to download and install, but the Oracle website is thoroughly confusing to me: www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/...index.html | 08:28 | ||
| should I take the Java ME SDK ? | |||
| I can only think that Oracle *doesn't* want you to use Java | |||
| stmuk | ME is mobile edition and utterly useless to anyone in 2018 | 09:02 | |
| oh that was J2ME | 09:03 | ||
| which is now ME anyway :) | 09:04 | ||
| I think you want SE followed by SDK | 09:05 | ||
| or JRE if you don't want to develop | |||
| lizmat | stmuk: thanks, I'm looking at what I need to run the CommaIDE | 09:53 | |
| jnthn | lizmat: www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/jav...33151.html and pick the Mac OS option there | 09:56 | |
| (If you're asking for "which should I install for Comma" :)) | 09:57 | ||
| lizmat | jnthn: thanks, any preference for 8u171 or 8u172 ? | 09:58 | |
| jnthn | No, though I guess "newer is better"? :) | ||
| Or "more broken", who knows ;) | |||
| lizmat | well, I assume higher number means newer | ||
| jnthn | Probably doesn't matter, though | ||
| stmuk | and click "no" when it asks you to install a new browser toolbar ;) | 09:59 | |
| lizmat | hmmm... so, I need to select a Project SDK | 10:05 | |
| what is that? the path to the perl6 executable ? | 10:06 | ||
| I guess so | 10:08 | ||
| jnthn | Yes | 10:12 | |
| If Perl 6 is in your path already it'd auto-detect that | |||

| lizmat | it didn't :-( | 10:18 | |
| though my setup may be atypical :-) | 10:19 | ||
| I just have a symlink in my ~/bin to the perl6 "executable" | |||
| jnthn | Well, "in the path when you ran the IDE". I ran into that one; I twiddled the path in my .bashrc or some such but wasn't launching it from my terminal | ||
| So that PATH tweak wasn't visible to it | 10:20 | ||
