nine The thing is: we only add types to that intern table that came from a different SC, i.e. we do not add types that were created during the current compilation. I guess the rationale is that if we created that parameterization, there's can't be a type from elsewhere to resolve it with. 08:49
Apparently the whole existing code comes from 2 commits from 2015. The commit message explicitly mentions that it's not enough to pass that spec test and whether that's because of a bug in this code or something else is yet to be determined. Seems like I've picked up on half finished code... 08:51
Which means that everything this code currently does may be wrong or based on wrong assumptions. Like that one about parameterizations we created. Because the test case has two compilation units creating the same parameterization. And in the program that uses both modules, we need to resolve them, despite each one thinking it has invented the thing. 08:53
Now removing that "did we create it ourselves" check actually fixes the golfed spec test, but breaks pretty much everything else. And that's my riddle for today 08:54

nine Apparently Stash's STable is missing from the CORE.c SC. Which does makes sense, given that its origin is in gen/moar/BOOTSTRAP/v6c.nqp 11:40

nine To make things more weird: even without the patch disabling the internability check, Stash:D is added to the param interns table, since Stash is from the BOOTSTRAP and Definite is from the Metamodel. So with regards to Stash nothing should have changed! 11:46

nine So in both the working and the non-working case, the Stash STable claims to be from CORE.c. The difference is that in the working case it also has a valid sc.idx, so we don't even look through the SC's root_stables. In the non-working case the sc.idx is -1 (undef) and we look through root_stables and don't find it
Turns out, in the non-working case there is actually an STable for Stash in the CORE.c SC at the same index as in the working case. But it's a different object (pointer) 12:15

nine Oooh...apparently I was wrong and it _is_ Stash's presence in the param intern table that causes the regression. Just not due to any parametric type being interned. Looks more like a side effect of deserialization triggered when reading the intern table 13:34
The surprising solution? Move resolving the param intern table until after processing repossessions. 13:53
Which come to think of it...makes a whole lot of sense: after all Stash _will_ get repossessed into CORE.c, as it's modified during the setting compilation. 13:54
So doing parametric interning first would cause us to deserialize a not-yet-repossessed STable.

When the same parametric type gets created by multiple, different compilation units, we need to unify them, when loading those units. Otherwise a Foo[Bar] created in one unit would not match a Foo[Bar] created in another. This unification is called interning.

nine Besides the bootstrap issues, When serializing objects, one needs to know their memory layout. And things like repossession or interning of parametrics need to write internal fields and deal with pointers, too 15:51

Configure is not needed to get a correct git describe. It's needed so MoarVM actually reports the same version as git describe does. 18:37
