patrickb Currently zmij is at version 1.1. Moar pulls in that version. Zmij head has a fix for building on older GCCs but also many other changes (in the hundreds). What shall we do? Fork and Backport? Jump to a non-release commit? 11:01
Voldenet use the newest commit of żmij 11:20
imo it's the most sane approach if you need to use non-tagged version, using forked version sounds fun if you plan to update never 11:32
[Coke] patrickb: We have about 1.5 weeks to test it out on blin and elsewhere if you pull it in now. 15:40
is that version *released*?
lizmat no, that was the issue 15:41
[Coke] ah.
Sorry, missed anything before patrickb saying this morning it was at 1.1
Is the issue *just* building on older gccs?
lizmat that's my understanding
[Coke] I wouldn't take a non-released version, no. 15:42
patrickb Yes, that's the only issue. It in turn breaks the precompiled Linux builds.
[Coke] if we want to curate a patched version, that seems better from a release standpoing, *assuming this is important enough to put in a release*
lizmat it breaking the precompiled Linux builds feels pretty important to me? 15:43
[Coke] If it's *just* a compilation fix I expect I won't see any fallout in Blin
... and that's because we won't update the precompiled builds to use a recent gcc, aye? 15:44
Which I am not here to litigate today. :)
so, no objections here.

patrickb can someone with permissions clone github.com/vitaut/zmij to github.com/MoarVM/zmij ? 16:37
lizmat done 16:49
patrickb lizmat: can you also grant me push permissions? 18:29
lizmat looks 18:30
patrickb: should work now 18:31
patrickb worked. Thank you! 18:32
lizmat yw! 18:33
Geth MoarVM: patrickbkr++ created pull request #2042:
Fix zmij on older GCCs
19:43
patrickb Ow man. Submodules are such a big pain in the
[Coke] yeeeesssssss 21:23
ShimmerFairy by the way, Unicode 18.0 released today! I'd be happy to work on updating Moar etc. for it (especially since the grapheme break rules have been adjusted, so it won't quite be a "mindless" upgrade), but if the next release is a bit too soon for comfort I'd be happy to wait on it. 22:59
[Coke] If you can work in a branch or provide a PR, we can see how close we are to release date 23:16
japhb ShimmerFairy++ # Good on ya! 23:19
ShimmerFairy Yeah, I can do branches/PRs (depending on if I have the ability to push to the repo). Hopefully wouldn't take too long to do, but I figured 1.5 weeks away is already a bit snug for this kind of upgrade work. 23:24
[Coke] yup 23:37
we should probably get you commit privs 23:38
ShimmerFairy I've got access to the Raku organization, but IIRC I don't have access to MoarVM or Rakudo. (At least, judging by whether or not I have a 'settings' tab on github when I check the relevant repos) 23:40
