kaestralblades I'm surprised there's no raku matrix room 18:49
mc2 kaestralblades: as long as IRC logs are here irclogs.raku.org/home.html, why would matrix be helpful ? (actually I ask myself this qyestion fir discord too ... I have a FOMO symptoms here?) 19:35
also: how hard is it to create a matrix channel with a bridge the way discord rakoons does ?
(as long as IRC is the main channel I remain happy) 19:36
actually my prefered way to interact with the community is no longer documented: perl6-users mailing list 19:37
Voldenet what is the matrix 19:42
;^)
hankache matrix who ;) 19:46
tadzik this room used to be bridged to Matrix when the whole libera.chat was; I don't know of any Raku Matrix room nowadays 19:50

kaestralblades mc2: matrix has a lot more features compared to irc now (not just log history, though it helps especially when it comes to allowing new joiners to see that in client) - presence, bios, profile pictures, voice channels, the ability to categorize rooms into a "space" a la a discord server, typing indicators (if that is of interest to someone), read indicators (also if that is of interest to anyone), pinned messages, threads 20:06
matrix <-> discord is pretty easy
oh, message editing too :) 20:07
(and deletion)
custom emojis and stickers, i guess, if you're of that crowd 20:08
voice messages are also a standard, as well are file uploads, markdown as a standard 20:12
Voldenet I don't really understand how one combines voice channels with history 20:13
it makes zero sense to have both 20:14
[Coke] note - As I understand it, we want to push the release out at least one week, so no release this saturday. (Still gives us a week to get a 2026.10)

kaestralblades Voldenet: yeah, its probably not necessary for raku. just one of many matrix features, though 20:25
i like everything else (message reactions, editing/deletion, federation, profiles, typing, status, multi-room spaces & space organization, e2ee, etc.) 20:26
(that should come through, idk if it did, just tried to set up my media proxy) 20:29

Voldenet it did, though I admit that I would use none of those features 20:34
mc2 kaestralblades: that's why I don't matrix: "message editing" is a bug, not a feature. none of the other features you mentionned is something I expect from a chat system so to me matrix is just a slow, network consumming and complicated IRC 20:40
I guess I will be disapointed too if I test discord at some point 20:42
I used irsii for more than a decade and now use weechat and in a tmux in a remote machine with multiple networks (including private ones) from the same client. that's the kind of features that pleases me. The missing feature is to edit lines into a vim buffer. 20:46
(maybe it's possible. I never tried) 20:47
hankache I don't think anyone of them is inherently wrong. They serve different audiences. The newer platform like matrix, discord, slack, etc. adapted to the shift in how people communicate. And to a certain extent even irc. I think v3 has introduced avatars if I am not mistaken. 20:48

mc2 By no mean I said it's wrong. just said it was useless to me and doesn't provide what irc clients has to offer. but the most convenient way to communicate with a group is by far mailing lists to me (because people use newsgroups no more which is a tragedy) 20:53
hankache That being said text is the common denominator for everyone. You can never go wrong there. Some people might no necessarily like or use these newer features 20:55
